Abstract

858,268. Cable drums. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Oct. 20, 1959 [Oct. 22, 1958], No. 35449/59. Class 99(2). A drum, e.g. for winding a cable or rope in mine hoists, comprises a cylindrical sheet casing 1 to which are welded side walls 2, 3 in the form of obtuse-angled cones, the latter being positioned with their bases facing each other and defining a drum of monocoque construction. Outwardly projecting shaft pivots 4, 5 are provided at the vertices of the side walls 2, 3. As shown, the casing 1 is provided with axially extending, cylindrical end portions 15, 16 for engagement by radially movable brake discs. Alternatively, axially movable brake shoes engage a sheet ring extending radially from the casing 1. The casing 1 is stiffened by sheet rings 17, 18, 19. Backing rings 20, 21 of friction material are secured to the casing 1 for engagement by ropes 22, 23. The end shaft 14 of a motor may be coupled to the pivot 4 for driving the drum.
