A sledge for towing behind a baling-machine comprises a loading platform 7 and a series of members 8 capable of flexing relative to the remainder of the sledge and running along the ground. The members 8 may be flexible or may be pivoted to the sledge. Pivoted bars 13, 14 retain the stack of bales on the members 8. The stack may be discharged by raising the retaining bars and driving a spike into the ground between the members 8 and a head of the stack so that forward movement of the sledge leaves the bales behind. Alternatively, Figs. 2-5 (not shown) a central pair of members 8 may be releasably connected to the sledge so that on release, they remain stationary with the stack while the sledge moves on the members being later pulled from under the stack by a chain or lever connection still attaching them to the sledge. In a further form (not shown) no side runners are provided rear of the loading platform and pivoted members such as 8 may be folded on to the platform to facilitate storage Wheels may be fitted to assist transport over growing crops &c.
