857,774. Nut-tapping machines. HACKETT BROS. (1934) Ltd. Jan. 23, 1958 [Jan. 24, 1957], No. 2639/57. Class 83 (3). In a curved shank-tap, nut-tapping machine, nut blanks 23 are fed, e.g. by gravity down a feed channel 24 into a position opposite a rotating-tap 13 and are pushed singly on to the tap by a reciprocating pusher 25. The nuts 16 are self-fed along the tap and are ejected at 15<1>. The pusher is reciprocated by a pneumatic piston 35, to opposite sides of which air is directed alternately by a valve 39 whose actuating lever 47 is operated by cams 48 on a pulley 34 driven by a shaft 31 and gearing 29, 26, from the shaft 5, which also drives the tap 13. The latter is mounted in a head 12 attached to a shaft 11 splined within shaft 5, which is driven by an expanding pulley 9. The pusher 25 reciprocates twice per revolution of the tap, and its speed may be varied by regulating and reducing-valves 42, 45. Pulley 34 drives an agitator in the container (not shown) for blanks 23.
