Abstract
857,035. Filters. TAPROGGE, J. July 21, 1958 [July 23, 1957], No. 23274/58. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] In a self-cleaning tubular heat exchanger the outlet conduit 104, Fig. 1, has two pivotallymounted upper sieve segments 101 which intercept fluid-borne cleaner bodies and pass them to two pivotally-mounted lower sieve segments 107, Fig. 2, from where they are directed into a return pipe 103 for recycling to a point in the cooling flow upstream of the heat exchanger. The sieve segments 101 and 107 are constructed from thin wires which may be enamelled and are arranged to rotate to the positions indicated in dotted lines so that large impurities adhering thereto can be moved by the flow of the cooling liquid. The sieve segments 101 are rotatably supported with the shafts 115 thereof in bearings 114 in the pipe wall, levers 116 being connected by pins 117, 118 to the sieve segments at one end and at the other to right hand and left hand spindle nuts 119 and 119<SP>1</SP>. Rotation of spindle 120 by the crank 121 causes the spindle nuts to move outwards to rotate the sieve segments 101. This rotating motion may also be arranged by extending the shafts 115 outwardly through fluidtight packings in the conduit 104. Each sieve segment 107 is secured to a shaft 122 which is supported in funnel plates 106 and rotated by a crank 123.
