Abstract

Textile materials of polyamides or modified polyacrylonitrile are dyed or printed with an aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble azo dyestuff containing at least one alkoxy or alkyl-amino radical which is substituted on a carbon atom or atoms thereof by an epoxy group or by a chlorine or bromine atom, or by a hydroxy group and a chlorine or bromine atom, the diazotisable amine from which the dyestuff is derived containing not more than one nitro group. Dyeing may be effected at temperatures up to or above 100 DEG C. Printing may be effected with a paste thickened with methyl cellulose, Nafka crystal gum or sodium alginate and containing the usual adjuvants such as urea, thiourea, thiodiglycol, methylated spirits, sodium-mnitrobenzenesulphonate and aqueous emulsions of sulphonated oils, the prints being dried and finally steamed. The dyestuff is added to the dyebath or printing paste, together with the usual dispersing agents, as an aqueous dispersion or as a re-dispersible powder. Dyeings or prints thus obtained with a dyestuff containing a primary amino group may be further diazotised and coupled on the fibre. The dyestuffs may be obtained from diazotised aromatic amines and coupling components which are free from sulphonic- and carboxylicacid groups but which are so-chosen that the resultant dyestuffs contains at least one of the above specified groups such as b - chloroethoxy, b - bromoethoxy, b -chloropropoxy, b - bromopropoxy, g - chloro -b -hydroxypropoxy, g - bromo -b - hydroxypropoxy, b -g -epoxypropoxy, b - chloroethylamino, b -bromoethylamino, b - bromopropylamino, b -chloropropylamino, g - chloro -b - hydroxypropylamino, g - bromob - hydroxypropylamino, b -g -epoxypropylamino, N : N- di- (b -chloroethyl)-amino, N : N- di(b - bromoethyl) amino, N : N-di- (g - chloro -b - hydroxypropyl) amino, N : N-di (g - bromo -b - hydroxypropyl)- amino, N : N-di-(b : g - epoxypropyl) amino, N -b - chloro-ethyl -N- b - methoxyethylamino, N -b - bromoethyl -N- ethylamino, N- g - bromo -b -hydroxypropyl -N -b -cyanoethylamino, N -b -g -epoxypropyl -N -methylamino, N- g - chloro b - hydroxypropyl -N -b -ethoxyethylamino and N- g -chloro -b - hydroxypropyl -N -b -hydroxyethylamino groups. Numerous examples of suitable dyestuff forming components are specified.
