Abstract

856,876. Flue dampers; baffles; reflectors. HOWLETT, R. J. Feb. 6, 1958 [Nov. 12, 1956], No. 34529/56. Class 126. An adjustable throat restrictor plate 17 is mounted on pins 16 secured across cut outs 15 in a support bar 1 by bearing loops 23 which can be sprung over the pins 16 and secured by clamping screws. One end 3 of the bar 1 is made adjustable by pin and slot connection 7, 8 and the ends 5 are forced into the sides of the fireplace until stops 6 are held against the brickwork by spring 11, with the main body of the bar 1 vertical. A strip 21 on the free edge of the plate prevents complete closure of the flue. In a modification Figs. 4, 4A, 4B, the bearing loops 31 are formed on slides 33 engaging a rail secured to the plate. Holes 37 accommodate a locating pin to prevent the flue being fully closed. The space between the bar 1 and the plate 17 is closed by an auxiliary plate 41 having tongues 42 engaging slots 43 in the slides 33. The lower face of the plate is polished to reflect heat outwardly to the room.
