Abstract

856,450. Pontoon rafts. WALLACE, W. April 21, 1959 [April 21, 1958], No. 12610/58. Class 113. [Also in Group XXVIII] An open girder raft structure 13 for supporting pipe lines 18 (see Group XXVIII) is supported on cylindrical pontoons 12, each rotatable about its central axis. The raft structure may be brought to an apex at which a pivotal flexible or universal joint is provided for connecting rafts end to end, or each end may have a ring structure to provide a swivel joint about a common centre. In the embodiment shown each end is provided with a fender as also shown in Fig. 4. One fender comprises rings 20 carrying rollers 21 corresponding to recesses 23 in castellated rings 24 on the rings 25 of the other fender. Two rafts may be connected end to end by a cable 27 passing round grooves 26 between the rings 20 and 25 and anchored at 28 and 29, and by a similar cable 30.
