Abstract

856,449. Washing test tubes. LEWIS, B. R. July 8, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 10983/58. Class 138(1). Test tubes for use in determining the butter fat content of milk, and each having a bulbous end 38 connected by a portion 36 of restricted cross-section to a portion 34 of enlarged crosssection, are cleaned by internal sprays of clearing liquid supplied through tubes 20 having orifices 26 providing jets for cleaning the portions 34, the portions 32, 38 being cleaned by jets provided by hollow needles 28 carried by the tubes 20. Each needle 28 has a conical skirt 30 fitting over a nipple at the end of a tube 20 and providing a support for a test tube. At the supporting points the crosssections of the skirts 30 and the test tubes differ to permit escape of the cleaning liquid. The latter is received in a tank 10 having a drain pipe 48, and surrounding a header 12 through which the cleaning liquid is supplied to the tubes 20.
