Abstract

856,272. Chucks. ERICKSON TOOL CO. Aug. 12, 1959 [May 7, 1959], No. 27603/59. Class 83 (3). A fluid-operated chuck comprises a body 1 surrounding a piston 5 and having a plate 9 secured thereto which carries a number of spring-members 14 to which are secured jaws 20. In operation, air is supplied through a port 6 to move the piston 5 and a tube 11 secured thereto to the right, thus flexing the legs 18 of the members 14 and moving the jaws 20, which are radially-adjustable by screws 21, 25, away from the chuck-axis. A workpiece is inserted between the jaws, and the air is exhausted, thus allowing the jaws to grip the work. The work is located axially by studs 27 which may carry a spider having a stop-face within the tube 11.
