Abstract

856,266. Venoclysis apparatus. ABBOTT LABORATORIES. Oct. 7, 1958 [Oct. 7, 1957], No. 31974/58. Class 81(2) [Also in Group XXIX] Means for controlling the flow of fluid through a flexible venoclysis tube 15 consists of a metal, plastic, or vulcanized rubber body 10 having a through passage to receive the tube and a transversely mounted shaft on which are fixed a cam 28 for compressing the tube and an operating lever 27 which enters a recess (not shown) in the side of the body forming a stop for the lever when in the position corresponding to closure of the tube. The tube may pass completely through the body or, as shown, may terminate therein, being connected to a stopper-piercing needle 14 through a needle hub 13 received in the lower part of the body. The lever 27 projects vertically upwards when the tube 15 is released by the cam so that the possibility of an operator pressing the body and needle downwardly to pierce a bottle stopper when the tube 15 is open is minimized.
