Abstract

856,095. Cleaning coke-oven doors and frames. WOODALL-DUCKHAM CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. Dec. 23, 1958, No. 41420/58. Class 99(2). A coke-oven door and frame having sealing surfaces has the latter cleaned by mechanically propelled scraper tools so correlated that at no time is any scraping carried out in an upward direction. Top horizontal scrapers work outward from the centre of the surface 22 and at the limits of their rectilinear movement are swept through 90 degrees to clean corners 24, 25 respectively and bottom scrapers sweep round corners 26, 27 before moving to the centre of surface 23. Each verticaal surface is dealt with by two scrapers whose paths overlap as shown by the arrows. The apparatus is in two subassemblies each running on rails, the one moving up to the door when held in the conventional rack, the other acting on the door frame. The scrapers are driven by chain drives, those at the top and bottom having friction clutches to regulate one or the other of the two movements, rectilinear or rotary, and those at the sides being advanced and retracted by hydraulic rams. The mechanism and a hydraulic control system are disclosed in great detail.
