Abstract
1,027,162. Cleaning coke oven doors. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug. 18, 1961], No. 29864/61. Heading F2N. Apparatus for removing deposits from the edges of coke oven doors comprises two pairs of guide members 3 and 7, the constituent members of one pair being adapted to be located parallel and adjacent to the upper and lower edges of the door respectively, and the constituent members of the other pair being adapted to be located parallel and adjacent to the opposite vertical edges of the door respectively, tool support means 8, 10 slidably mounted on each of the guide members and cleaning tools 13, 14 attached thereto, the vertical guide members being interconnected by means of at least one fluid-operated extensible and retractable ram whereby the guide members can be moved towards each other so as to bring the associated cleaning tools into contact with the side edges of the door. The rods 3 connect vertical members 2 carried by the coke oven pusher car, and the slidable sleeves 4, 5 are interconnected by double-acting hydraulic or pneumatic rams 6, and sleeves 10 are connected to the sleeves 4 by slotted links 11 and resiliently urged away therefrom by springs 12. The sleeves 8 are connected by double-acting rams 9 to the sleeves 4, 5. In operation, when the framework has been aligned with the door 1 the rams 6 effect movement of the sleeves 4, 5 to bring the cleaning tools 13 into contact with and to traverse the upper and lower edges of the door, the sleeve 10 when forced against spring 12 removing the tools 13 from the righthand side edge cleaners 14 which when in contact with the side edges of the door are reciprocated by the rams 9. The rams 6, 9 may be interconnected by switches for automatic operation and remote control of the pusher car, and be controlled so that the sleeves 4 are given a reciprocatory motion to impart a sinuous movement to the tools 14.
