Abstract
855,698. Making commutators; soldering. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec. 21, 1957], No. 41075/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXV] The segments 13 of a moulded commutator are provided with risers 24 which project into the moulded hub and provide additional anchorage. The segments are pressed from a copper strip 16 in known manner leaving temporary bridges 17 between the segments, the under-side of which have gouged out anchoring claws (not shown). The bridges are removed at one end by stamped incisions 20, and the strip coated with an oxide layer. Slots 23 are sawn in the ends of the segments which are then dipped into a resin bath. After bending into a circle, the ends are dipped into a solder bath to coat the sides of the slots so that the risers may be soldered in place by reheating. The risers are cut as shown in Fig. 3 from a copper bar 25 by jig-sawing. The inwardly-projecting parts of the risers may be split as shown, or formed with dents, holes or humps for keying. The outer parts of the risers may be bent axially of the commutator.
