855,566. Frequency detectors. FERRANTI Ltd. Aug. 15, 1957 [Aug. 18, 1956], No. 25304/56. Class 40(5). A frequency meter includes a transformer 10 having a primary winding 13 and two secondary windings 11, 12, an inductance 14 in series with winding 13, a variable resistor 16 being included in line with winding 11 and an inductor 19 with winding 12 the rectified output of windings 11, 12 across resistor 18, 21 respectively being combined in opposition in a meter 22, the arrangement being that an input voltage of amplitude sufficient to saturate the transformer will cause an output across secondary 11 and therefore a current in 18 which is dependent upon frequency while the current in 21 will be independent of frequency due to the opposing resistances 19, 12 but dependent only on any amplitude variations due to incomplete saturation of the transformer, the reading on meter 22 being thus directly proportional to frequency and corrected for any amplitude variation which may occur.
