Abstract
855,323. Reinforced plastics pipes. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Dec. 24, 1958 [Jan. 9, 1958], No. 41641/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 99(2). A fibre reinforced plastics pipe comprises a series of layers of circumferentially laid up fibres bonded by a liquid polymer of a C 4 to C 6 diolefin which has been cured at 150-165‹C. Glass fibre is preferred as reinforcing and may be sized with an unsaturated organic halo silano (e.g. cyclohexenyltrichlorosilane) but asbestos, mica, celite, cotton linen rayon hair nylon, "Orlon" (Registered Trade Mark) iron, aluminium and copper may also be used as the reinforcing fibre. The resins suitable include homopolybentadiene or a co-polymer of butadiene and styrene. The pipe is formed on a mandrel and is wrapped in paper &c. before curing which may take place wholly or in part on the mandrel.
