Abstract

Class 40(5) In order to increase the rate of charge of an integrating capacitor of a ratemeter of the type in which the pulse rate is measured by measuring the mean voltage developed by the pulses across the capacitor, the pulses are also applied to a subsidiary integrating circuit the output of which is then amplified and applied to the main integrating circuit including said capacitor. In Fig. 1, the main integrating capacitor C1 of a meter for use with a radioactive source is provided by means analogous to a "Miller" effect and is charged through a diode pump circuit DPI, the pulses also charging a subsidiary integrating capacitor C2 through a diode pump DP2, the output from capacitor C2 being amplified by a transistor T, and applied to capacitor C1 via capacitor C4. Diode D2 and capacitor C5 effect a rapid discharge of capacitor C, and resistor R1 - R4 apply a bias to diode D1, to prevent minor undesired input pulses affecting C.
