Abstract
Linear polymeric aluminium oxide glycinates and lactates having a linear chain of 2 or 3 aluminium atoms joined by oxygen are prepared by adding glycine or lactic acid to an aluminium alcoholate of a C1-5 aliphatic alcohol in the presence of water and an alcohol solvent vaporizable from the product without decomposing same, the reaction being effected above about 80 DEG C. but below the decomposition temperature of the product until the liberation of alcohol ceases. Temperatures up to 170 DEG C. are mentioned. When products having no hydroxyl groups attached to p aluminium are prepared the reactants are brought together in a molar ratio of aluminium compound : acid : water of 6 : 2-10 : 4-12. When hydroxy aluminium oxide acylates are prepared said reactants in proportions of 6 : 2-6 : 3-4 are first heated above about 80 DEG C. until alcohol liberation ceases and a further 4-9 molar proportions of water are added followed by further heating. The alcohol may finally be removed under reduced pressure. The products find use as stomach ant-acids, buffering agents, and anti-perspirants.
