Abstract

854,840. Tubeless tyres. GIBBS, E. H. Dec. 9, 1958, No. 39725/58. Class 144 (2). A tubeless tyre has an annular puncture-sealing body 19 extending at least across its inner crown area, and if desired from bead to bead, said body comprising spaced walls 20, 21 of vulcanized rubber interconnected by at least circumferentially extending laterally spaced webs 22 defining annular cells 23 which are filled with a puncture sealant 24, the radially outer wall 21 being bonded integrally to the inner lining 15 of the tyre and the inner wall 20 preferably being coated with a thin layer 25 of the puncture sealant. The walls 20, 21 may be additionally interconnected by circumferentially spaced transverse webs to form small cells. Two such bodies 19 may be superimposed on the inner surface of the tyre with their respective cells in staggered relation and with one or both said bodies extending from bead to bead, or with both said bodies covering the crown area only.
