[Also in Group XXIX] A rotary cylindrical valve for dispensing a number of different liquid or semisolid substances into a container, comprises a horizontally disposed hollow cylindrical valve body 21, Fig. 1, having a discharge orifice 41 on its underside and lengthwise and transverse partitions 45, 46 dividing the body into first and second chambers 47, 48 connected to inlets 43, 42 respectively through which two separate substances e.g. two differently flavoured ice creams are admitted. The partition 45 has a hole 49 there-through and the partition 46 extends across the orifice 41 so that the two substances may be dispensed side-byside into a cup C on rotation of a valve sleeve member 27 having one or more discharge nozzles 36. The valve sleeve member 27 is mounted on a shaft 11 for rotation by a filling machine which through suitable gearing drives a conveyer to advance the cups one-by-one under a nozzle 36. In another embodiment in which three substances are dispensed side-by-side into a cup, a Y-shaped partition having limbs 63, 64, 65, Fig. 7, is located lengthwise of the body and two transverse partitions across the discharge orifice 62 to divide the valve into three chambers. The chamber 63, 65 communicating with the orifice on one side of one transverse partition, a hole 69 in the limb 63 permitting the chamber 63, 64 to communicate with the orifice between the partitions and a hole (not shown) in the limb 64 permitting the chamber 64, 65 to communicate with the orifice on the other side of the other partition. In a modification in which two substances are dispensed side-by-side and subsequently covered by a third substance, the body 21, Fig. 3, includes two orifices 51, 52. The orifice 51 communicating with two of the chambers to dispense the side-by-side substances and the third chamber communicating with the orifice 52. Specification 813,369 is referred to.
