Abstract

854,676. Humidifiers. PARKS-CRAMER CO. June 19,1958 [June 24,1957], No. 19628/58. Class 55 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] As shown, a humidifying system for an enclosure comprises a water vaporizing unit 6 of the atomizer type, a conduit 20 supplying water, a conduit 10 through which air at superatmospheric pressure passes, a valve 58 in water conduit 20 and means 12, for example a humidistat, a thermostat or a humidistat and a thermostat in conjunction, by which valve 58 may be controlled, and means 64 on the outlet side of valve 58 by which the rate of discharge of water through unit 6 may be regulated in response to variations in the rate of flow through valve 58 so as to establish equilibrium between unit 6 and valve 58, and to compensate, independently of means 12, for irregularities in the water-discharging capacity of vaporizing unit 6. Compressed air enters at 10 and whenever humidity as measured by humidity 12 falls below a predetermined value valves 18 and 72 open and the air passes by lines 19 and 4 to atomizing unit 6. Some compressed air also passes from valve 72 to water valve 58 to control the rate of flow of water through line 20 from tank 8, in which the level 22 of water is maintained some inches below the outlet level of atomizing unit 6 by means of ball-cock 28. Between valve 58 and atomizing unit 6 there is a pocket 64 in the water line (there may also be a second pocket 77, if desired) which is preferably vented to the atmosphere at 66. When the system is put into operation pipes 20, 64, 2, and 54 will fill with water to the level 22 and air will pass through valves 18 and 72, and spray will emerge from atomizers 6 which are of the self-cleaning type (see Group XXIX). As the humidity approaches the predetermined value, air pressure in line 60 decreases and restricts the flow of water through valve 58, so that, as the volume rate at which the water passes through the valve 58 drops below that issuing from atomizers 6, the level of water in line 74 drops from A to some other level B. This increases the lift required to raise the water to the nozzles and so, with a constant air pressure delivered to the atomizers, the amount of spray is reduced. The Specification describes other pockets 64 in the water lines which may be used, all being of the same principle. U.S.A. Specifications 2,434,421, 2,623,782 and French Specification 587,315 are referred to.
