854,663. Tennis &c. rackets. SLAZENGERS Ltd. July 30, 1959 (Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26471/58. Class 132(2). A racket is made by forming a frame with an open joint at the bottom of the head frame, drawing a knitted or woven preformed sleeve, e.g. of glass fibres, polyamide or polyester, over at least part of the head frame, impregnating the sleeve with a synthetic resin, and applying pressure, and heat if necessary, to bind the sleeve to the frame and close the open joint. The frame may be formed of bent plain or laminated wood or expanded natural or synthetic hard rubber or synthetic resin material. As shown in Fig. 1, the head frame is extended to form two half handles 3 separated by an open joint 5. The sleeve is drawn over one half handle, over the head frame and then over the other half handle. Alternatively a sleeve may be drawn over one half handle and the greater part of the head frame. A throat piece and a spacer between the two half handles may be inserted. As shown in Fig. 6, a sleeve is drawn over a head frame having an open joint between its ends 10, the frame is spliced to handle 3a, a further sleeve 6 is drawn over the handle, and the impregnation and moulding carried out. Two or more sleeves may be superimposed.
