[Also in Groups XXII and XXXV] In an electrical control circuit for say the screwdown motors of a steel mill having a plurality of combinations of control states responsive to factors such as weight of ingot, final size of bloom required, number of passes &c., uniselectors are used in place of a multiplicity of relays for translating the input conditions into output connections suitable for controlling the motors or other devices. In the embodiment given, the input conditions are set on multi-position switches which are connected to input uniselectors which step in unison to a position corresponding to the input conditions. The input uniselectors are connected to output uniselectors which give the required connections to perform the control operations. In the Figure, a slider d of a potentiometer d, e is connected to an amplifier a controlling a motor b driving the screw-down mechanism c to which is attached the slider d. A series of pairs of resistors r 1 , r 2 of differing ratios forming dividers are connected to pairs of output uniselector contacts P1-50, Q1-50, and their mid-points to slider d, thus the screw-down mechanism will take up a position corresponding to the pair of resistors connected to wipers P, Q, the position of which is determined by an input selector which is stepped at each pass. Random movements of the motor b are prevented by a relay contact LL1 which is opened when the roll setting is altered.
