Abstract

854,458. Transfer station for endless conveyers. RADIO STEEL & MFG. CO. June 19, 1958 [July 8, 1957], No. 19708/58. Class 78 (1). At a transfer station 10 for transferring articles 89 from long carriers 88 of endless-chain conveyer 6 to short carriers 200 of endless-chain conveyer 8 by means of holders 28 (as set out in Specification 854,436), steadying means 100 are provided to prevent the carriers 88 from swing- ing, so as to aid the transfer. Thus, sprockets 56 and 18 and disc 22 move together as a unit round fixed shaft 14 so that chain 6, chain 8 and material holders 28 accordingly rotate round the shaft 14 as a unit, so as to permit holder 28 at point 17 to engage article 89 on carrier 88 and the article to be carried round till at point 21 it is transferred to carrier 200 of chain 8. The steadying means 100 comprises twin synchronous chains 102, 114 of which chain 102 engages with and is driven by chain 6 and in turn drives chain 114. Chain 114 carries forks 120, each of which engages a carrier 88 to prevent the latter from swinging and is swung about axis 126 into engagement with a carrier by cam-track 128, the track bearing on fingers 122 secured to fork 120.
