Abstract
854,436. Endless conveyers. RADIO STEEL & MFG. CO. April 22, 1958 [May 20, 1957], No. 12798/58. Class 78(1). Articles are transferred from one conveyer to another travelling at a different speed, e.g. from a conveyer 8, Fig. 2, to a conveyer 6, by a series of extensible arms 34 provided with loadengaging hooks 38 which are mounted on a rotatable disc 22 and are extended and retracted in timed relationship with the conveyers. The disc 22, Fig. 1, is secured rigidly to a sprocketwheel 18 which is mounted rotatably on a fixed shaft 14 and is driven by engagement with load carriers 88 depending from the conveyer 8. Each arm 34 is pivoted at 36 to a bracket 37 depending from the disc 22 and is connected at its end to a plate 40, Fig. 3, from which depend shafts 46 carrying rollers 48. These rollers engage the rail 54 of a cam-guide-plate 50 and the upper surface of this plate supports rollers 42 mounted on the underside of the plate 40. The hub 58 of a sprocket-wheel 56 is mounted rotatably on the shaft 14. A collar 64 secured to the hub has a series of rods 66 pivotally connected to it. The outer ends 70 of the rods are pivoted. to vertically slidable bars 72 which end in forked members 74. The bars 72 move in guides 76 secured to the rim of the sprocket 56. Each rod 66 has a depending part 80 which engages a fixed cam surface 78. A fixed guide-strip 84 retains the shanks 90 of the carriers 88 between it and the sprocket 56. The hook 94 of a carrier 88 engages the upper cross-member 98, Fig. 5, of a double eyelet 96, the depending shank 100 of which ends in a hook engaging the load. At the beginning of a transfer a hook 38 at the end of an arm 34 engages the cross-member 102 of an eyelet 96. As the rollers at the end of the arm move along the cam track 50, the arm rises and lifts the eyelet from the hook 94. Further movement along the track takes the carrier away from the conveyer 8 and towards the conveyer 6. As the arn is extended, the eyelet is carried towards a hook 94 of the conveyer 6 until the hook is in position to engage the crossmember 98. Further movement of the arm along the cam-track causes it to descend slightly to deposit the eyelet on the hook and then to retract to withdraw the hook 38 from the eyelet. Means, which is synchronized with the movements of the conveyers 6, 8, is provided for engaging and steadying the load carriers as they arrive at the transfer station.
