Abstract
854,210. Sight testing apparatus. TURVILLE, A. E. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957; Feb. 27, 1958], Nos. 30144/57'and 6458/58. Class 97(1) Apparatus, for use in sight testing, comprises two mirrors, inclined at a large obtuse angle, and a pair of complementary stereoscopic representations so arranged that an observer of normal vision is able to see both mirrors with each eye but only the reflection of one representation in one mirror with each eye so that the two reflections appear to coalesce into a stereoscopic image. The apparatus shown in Fig. 4 comprises a frame 44 to which is attached a mirror system 46, tiltable about a universal pivot 47, a handle 41, a test chart 50 with "objects" 103 and 101, and an adjustable trial frame 52. The observer views images of the "objects" 103 and 102 with his right and left eye respectively, and, if he has normal vision, the line 102 will appear to pass through "o" in 103. The mirror system may be as shown in Fig 6, comprising two mirrors 54 which may be half-silvered, or as shown in Fig. 1 comprising two glass blocks 10. 12 making a small angle with each other, block 12 being rotatable about the axis PQ: the front surface 12 and the right hand half of the back surface of 10 are silvered. If the mirrors are half-silvered a white screen may be placed behind the mirrors, and viewed through said mirrors. Other test cards are described.
