Abstract

1523436 Three dimensional display system DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 24 Oct 1975 [15 Nov 1974] 49609/74 Heading H4F A system for observing an apparent threedimensional image includes a display for producing in sequence two images of a scene viewed from different but similar viewpoints, a polarizer and liquid crystal cell arrangement for acting as an optical shutter on application of electric voltages to the arrangement, whereby images may be separately received by the two eyes of an observer, and control circuits for presenting the two images on the display in synchronism with the application of voltages to said polarizer and liquid crystal cell arrangement whereby each eye of the observer may receive its appropriate image. In one embodiment, the display comprises a cathode-ray tube 1, a polarizing layer 2 and a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell 3 being mounted on the front face of the tube 1. The display is viewed through glasses 10 provided with polarising lenses 11, 12.
