853,911. Rectifying. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. June 26, 1959 [June 23,1958], No. 20075/58. Class 38 (2). In a circuit arrangement wherein mercury arc rectifiers R1 ... R4 supply a load, as shown traction motors 1, 2, 3, 4, through smoothing chokes CH1, CH2, switches SO1, SO2 are provided which are normally in position T but are movable to position H so that preheating current flows through the rectifiers but not the load. The preheating supply may be obtained from the minimum setting of a variable supply transformer. The arrangement may be adapted for polyphase and push-pull rectifier circuits.
