Abstract

852,895. Compressors. LICENTIAPATENT VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 6, 1957 [Aug. 7, 1956; Sept. 5, 1956], No. 24791/57. Class 8(1). A hermatically sealed electric motor driven refrigerant compressor casing comprises upper and lower end cup-shaped members 1, 2, Figs. 1 and 3, welded together along a line 3 and metal reinforcing pressings 4, 8 welded to the interior walls of the cups and spaced therefrom to provide spaces to accommodate components such as oil and refrigerant conduits and sound damping material. The lower insert 8 is funnel-shaped and is welded to the cup 2 along lines 30, 31, 34 to reinforce the oil sump 16. The upper pressing has orificed recesses 19, 20 on opposite sides of a weld line 6, Fig. 2, which register with the outlet of the valve chamber 14 and with a lubricating passage 18 leading from the compressor cylinder wall. A further weld line 5 together with weld line 6 bounds a pressure chamber 21 which is isolated by line 6 from an oil discharge chamber 23 leading back to the sump 16 through spaces 24 between weld lines 7 along ridges of a corrugated portion of the pressing 4. In a modification the oil and refrigerant outlet ducts of the compressor cylinder are connected to the orificed recesses in the upper pressing by a bellow means.
