Abstract
852,836. Contact lenses. IBISON, A. July 25, 1958 [Aug. 9, 1957], No. 25118/57. Class 97(1) A contact lens has on its inner face three spaced bosses between which are formed ventilating channels extending from the lens periphery to a central area which is designed to be clear of the cornea. As shown, the corneal lens has on its inner surface three bosses 10 having chamfered edge-portions defining ventilating ducts 11. Such lenses may be moulded on a mushroom-like format having built thereon as by electro-plating a multi-legged spider which during the moulding will form the ventilating channels 11, the remaining parts of the format being temporarily covered, as with paper. Alternatively the channels may be formed by an etching process or by superimposing a metal template on a mushroomformer of the desired complexity.
