852,631. Slicing machines. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. Oct. 26, 1956 [July 26, 1955], No. 21625/55. Class 28(2) To prevent accidents the back of the bottom edge of the oscillater gravity feed substance carrier 6 is provided with a shaped shield 8 which masks the cutting edge of the knife adjacent the thickness gauge plate 5 when the carrier has been slid to its exterior forward position. Further the carrier 6 is covered in by wire mesh guards at the top and at its open sides. Such guards at the open side comprise a fixed part 8 near the knife and an upper movable mesh part 10 hinged open at 11 to allow the food block to be placed in the carrier. A catch plate 14 abuts against a flange 12 on the thickness gauge plate to prevent cutting movement until the wire mesh part 10 is closed over the side of the carrier 10.
