Abstract

Dihaloborines (HBX2 where X = Br, Cl, or 1) are produced by contacting a mixture of H2 and BCl3, BBr3, or BI3, with an electropositive metal at a space velocity 0.7-0.95 min.-1 at 410-550 DEG C. The molar ratio of H2:BX3 should be 3:1 to 8:1 and the metal may be Li, p Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr, Ba, Mg, Zn, K, or Al, or mixtures, alloys or amalgams thereof, and may be granular. The products are stabilized by mixing HBCl2, HBBr2, or HBI2 with 50-60% molar of the corresponding BX3.
