Abstract
Films which have a transparency of at least 95%, i.e. they are capable of transmitting 95% of normally incident white light without scattering, are made by extruding a molten linear high molecular weight crystallisable polymer of propylene, alone or in admixture with a linear high molecular weight amorphous or block polymer of propylene, to form a film, and immediately quenching the film in a cooling fluid having a temperature of not more than 80 DEG C. By blockpolymers are meant polymers which consist of macromolecular isotactic and non-isotactic segments and are soluble in heptane and insoluble in ether. The quenching fluid is preferably water and the film is obtained by conventional means, e.g. by extruding the fused mass through a die plate and passing the film between a pair of rollers immersed in water. Specification 835,038 is referred to.
