Abstract
In a process of providing a transparent electrically conductive coating of an oxide of tin on a glass member by vacuum evaporation from a tantalum surface, the glass member is heated to at least 200 DEG C. while the oxide is being evaporated and is then removed from the vacuum and heated to a temperature of at least 400 DEG C. but less than the softening point of the glass. Oxides which may be evaporated are stannic oxide, stannous oxide and stannous hydroxide. A pattern coating may be produced by interposing a mask between the glass member and the vapour source. The process is of use in the production of target assemblies in cathode ray tubes.
