Abstract
Isobutylene containing up to 2% by volume of n-butylenes is purified, with a view to polymerisation, by contacting in the vapour phase at 40 DEG -80 DEG F. at 0,3-10 w./hr./w. with a crystalline metal alumino-silicate having uniform pore openings of 5 . Atmospheric pressure is preferred. The alumino-silicate may be a natural or synthetic zeolite, the latter preferably being one of the formula Na2O. Al2O3. 2 Si O2 nH2O which has been ion exchanged to replace some sodium with calcium. The zeolite may be supported on an inert binder, e.g. calcined bentonite. The isobutylene may be one from a sulphuric acid concentration. Dienes may be removed first by passage through a 4 molecular sieve.
