Abstract

849,868. Thermionic valves. EDGERTON, GERMESHAUSEN & GRIER Inc. Oct. 30, 1958 [Feb. 10, 1958], No. 34895/58. Class 39(1). A hydrogen reservoir in a discharge tube such as a thyratron containing hydrogen at from 0À1-1À0 mm. pressure consists of one or more rare earth metals which is maintained at about 1000‹K. The tube shown is a ceramic-walled thyratron of the type shown and described in Specifications 836,918 and 836,919, having a vanetype cathode 5. The reservoir material is contained in a cup 6 having an apertured cover 8 closed by a wire mesh screen 10 with a lid 18. Below the cup is a heater 12. The material may be any of the rare earth elements lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and lutecium.
