849,171. Work-holders. MASCHINENFABRIK HILMA G.m.b.H. July 9. 1958 [Sept. 12, 1957], No. 21991/58.. Class 83 (3). In a work-clamping device, the coarse movement of the movable clamping-jaw is by mechanical means and the gripping-pressure is applied hydraulically. A base 1 carries a fixed clamping-jaw 2 pinned thereto at 3, and a movable jaw 9 adjusted by a spindle 28 and nut 27 pinned to the base 1 at any one of the positions 6a. Plungers 10a, 10b, connected to pistons 15a, 15b by screws 11 and slidable on an inclined surface 9a on the jaw, are actuated by oil pressure from a pneumatically-operated intensifier through a pipe 22, the pressure on each piston being equalized by a connecting- channel 14c, and the pistons being retracted by springs 17. The jaw 9 is located on the base by the pin 6 and moved towards the fixed-clamp 2 by the screw 28. Pressure is then supplied to the plungers 10a, 10b, to clamp the work, the plungers 10a &c. accommodating themselves to the shape of the work. The plungers 10a, 10b may face in the opposite direction for gripping work internally.
