849,144. Enrobing machines. JAHN, R. C. March 25, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 2532/58. Class 28(1). In a chocolate enrobing machine which includes an enrober tank, the viscosity of chocolate in the tank is controlled by feeding tempered chocolate continuously to the tank at a predetermined rate in excess of that at which it is removed from the tank for the coating of articles, so as to ensure a controlled rate of overflow from a predetermined level within the tank. The overflow may be returned directly to a tempering installation or may be collected in receptacles for subsequent retempering. As described, chocolate is drawn from storage tank 1 through a valve 2 by a pump 3 and is delivered to an automatic batch tempering kettle 4 and thence to a holding kettle 5. The fluid tempered chocolate is pumped from kettle 5 to enrober tank 8 which has an overflow pipe 9 through which surplus chocolate is pumped back to storage tank 1 by a pump 10. Alternatively, the overflow may pass into an overflow pipe by way of a lip in the tank or a channel extending round the tank or it may be collected in receptacles from pipe 9 for subsequent retempering without the use of pump 10 and storage tank 1. The enrober tank 8 is deliberately fed with surplus chocolate under control of a valve 11.
