Abstract

848,669. Transistor amplifier circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 17, 1956 [Dec. 15, 1955], No. 35984/55. Class 40(6). Gain control in a transistor amplifier is effected by connecting between two stages two potentiometers which are electrically and mechanically coupled together so that varying the position of the sliders varies the attenuation between the stages without varying substantially the impedance presented by the potentiometer network to the transistors. In Fig. 1, two potentiometers 1, 3 of the same resistance value are connected as shown between two common emitter stages, the resistance of the potentiometers being low compared with the output and input resistances of the two stages. The sliders are arranged so that, in the diagram, they are raised or lowered together. To this end, the resistances may be arranged on opposite arcs of a circle with the sliders on an angularly variable diameter or may be coaxially mounted, with a common operating spindle for the sliders or they may be in the form of a pair of parallel strips or rods with a common slider. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the gain control system is applied to a common base type amplifier.
