Abstract
848,605. Transistor protection circuits. PHILCO CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 26896/58. Class 40(6). A transistor circuit comprises a junction transistor connected in a common emitter circuit, having forward bias in the input circuit, and a unilaterally conductive device serially connected in the input circuit to prevent reverse flow of base current in the event of an input signal of alternating polarity attaining a value sufficient to overcome the bias, whilst permitting substantially unimpeded flow of current in the forward direction. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the forward bias for the PNP transistor 11 is provided by the potential divider 17, 18 across the battery 19. A diode 20 (for example a germanium diode or a reject transistor) is connected in series with the base, the polarity being such as to prevent base current flowing in the reverse direction should the signal amplitude be sufficient to overcome the bias.
