Abstract
1408985 Automatic current and voltage regulation SONY CORP 6 June 1973 [6 June 1972] 27053/73 Heading G3X [Also in Division H3] A constant current independent of supply voltage is provided by a circuit comprising two transistors 3, 4 of opposite conductivity type cross-coupled collector-to-base, having emitters connected to respective supply terminals and a semi-conductor junction bias device connected across each emitter-base path, e.g. diode connected transistors 5, 6, further transistors 7, 8 having their bases and emitters connected to the corresponding electrodes of transistors 3 and 4 to provide the constant output currents. It is explained that the regenerative connection of transistors 3 and 4 provides constant base currents to output transistors 7 and 8 and that the output currents depend upon the junction areas. The diode connected transistors each may be replaced by a pair of series-connected diodes and emitter resistors may be provided for transistors 3 and 4, Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown). In these figures transistors 7 and 8 are used as the loads for the input and output stage of an amplifier. In Figures 8 and 11 (not shown), a constant voltage device in the form of a Zener diode or a suitably biased transistor (20) is connected in series between the collectors of the output transistors 7, 8 to provide thereacross a floating constant voltage supply.
