848,482. Centrifugal-moulding machines. STAVELEY IRON & CHEMICAL CO. Ltd., RILEY, R. V., and DEENING, A. G. Oct. 17, 1958 [Oct. 18, 1957], No. 32636/57. Class 87(2). Apparatus for centrifugally casting plastic or resinous pipes or linings in a tubular mould comprises spaced rollers to support the mould, means for introducing the material in flowable condition into the mould when mounted on the rollers, and means for producing a high-frequency electric field within the mould. A high frequency generator supplies alternating current to two electrodes 44 of curved cross-section arranged externally of the mould and along its length when in position on rollers 11, 12 so that the moulding material is heated but not the mould. The mould 13 is fed into position along conveyor 26 and in transit actuates a trip mechanism which automatically prepares the apparatus for the mould : pneumatic jack 31 moving loading arms 28 to the loading position and pneumatic jack 18 moving rotatable rollers 12 away from fixed rollers 11 into a mould receiving position determined by stops 19. When a trip mechanism on arms 28 is actuated, the mould is lowered onto rollers 11 and 12 and the arms retracted. Jacks 23 and 25 move upper rollers 14 and end roller 16 respectively so that they hold the mould in position. The resin feed arm 33 is provided with an injector and epoxy resin is distributed along the length of mould 13, the motor 17 switched on, and the resin pipe, which may be fibre-reinforced, moulded. Rollers 14 and 16 are retracted after moulding and the mould 13 lifted on to conveyer 27 by arms 29 actuated by jack 32 ; rollers 12 being forced towards rollers 11 to assist this operation. By a weighing or electric measuring device, stops 19 and a feed-measuring device are altered to accommodate mould of different size. The mould 13 may be porous.
