[Also in Group XXX] Means for moving a non-rotatable ram axially, such as a bar supporting a tool movable under the control of an amplifier, e.g. in a copying attachment on a machine-tool, or for arc-length-control for profile-welding, comprises a motor 1, reduction-gearing 2, 3, which rotates an axially-fixed nut 4 engaging a screwed portion 6 of a non-rotatable rod 7, and a bush 8 provided with a system of recirculating balls (not shown), which guide the smooth portion of the rod. An arm 10, Fig. 2, secured to the rod carries a roller 11 engaging guide-rails 12, and a finger 14 which actuates limit-switches 16,17 through rollers 15 thereon. In a modification (not shown), further re-circulating ball-bushes are provided to guide the rod 7.
