Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0847762/IV(b)/1> where R is an abietyl, hydroabietyl or dehydroabietyl radical, X is the radical CH2R1, and Y is a hydrogen atom or the radical CH2R1, and in which R1 is an a -ketonyl group, are made by reacting rosin amine with hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde and an a -ketone. The a -ketone may be acetone, acetophenone, 2,4-pentanedione, mesityl oxide, or diacetone alcohol. The compounds are mixed with propargyl alcohol to form corrosion-inhibiting compositions. Specification 734,665 is referred to.ALSO:Compositions comprising propargyl alcohol and a compound of p the general formula <FORM:0847762/II/1> where R is an abietyl, hydroabietyl or dehydroabietyl, X is the radical CH2R1, and Y is a hydrogen atom or the radical CH2R1, and in which R1 is an a -ketonyl group, are corrosion inhibitors in the acid pickling of metals and in the acidizing of oil-wells. R1 is derived from ketones such as acetone, acetophennone, 2, 4-pentanedione, mesityl oxide, and diacetone alcohol. The compositions may include other inhibitors, wetting and/or dispersing agents, and isopropyl alcohol as a thinner. Specification 734,665 is referred to.
