Abstract
Polyethylene with a density of from 0,935 to 0,960, a melt index of from 2 to 200, a ratio of weight average to number average molecular weight between 2 and 10 and a solubility in carbon tetrachloride of at least 1% by weight, is chlorosulphonated to a curable product with a chlorine content of from 38 to 48% and a sulphur content of from 0,7 to 3,0% by weight. In Examples, polyethylenes prepared with an azo-diisobutyronitrile catalyst or a catalyst obtained by treating titanium tetrachloride with tridecyl aluminium are chlorosulphated and the products are cured and compounded with conventional additives, and show improved resistance to oils and organic solvents and have good elastomeric properties.
