In order to reduce vibration in a gas-bearing of the kind comprising a porous bearing surface member to the back of which a gas is supplied under pressure, the bearing surface of the porous member is coated so as to reduce the porosity thereof. The coating may be of shellac or metal applied by vacuum vaporization.
