Abstract

Compositions comprising an epoxide resin and a vinylpyridine or a nuclearly substituted vinyl pyridine or a pre-formed homo-polymer of such a vinyl compound are liquid or easily liquifiable and can be poured into moulds where they set. Catalysts for the polymerization of vinyl compounds, e.g. free radical catalysts such as organic peroxides may be included in the compositions and also other monomeric vinyl compounds, e.g. styrene. Examples of mixes are (1) "Epikote 828" (Registered Trade Mark), 4-vinyl pyridine and ditertiary butyl peroxide, (2) Epikote 834, styrene, 4-vinyl pyridine and ditertiary butyl peroxide. Other suitable curing agents for the epoxide resins which are mentioned are 2-vinyl pyridine, 2-methyl-5-vinyl-pyridine and 2-vinyl-5-ethylpyridine.
