846,655. Tape feed apparatus. CREED & CO. Ltd. Dec. 19, 1958, No. 41147/58. Class 40(3). [Also in Group XVI] A tape feed apparatus comprises means for feeding a tape 8, a tape clamp moved by the tape during feeding, means for releasing the clamp and for returning it to its original position to reclamp the tape, and means controlled by lack of movement of the tape for indicating tape feed failure. As shown, the tape 1 is fed by a sprocket wheel 2 past a punch block 3 associated with a series of punches 4, the sprocket wheel 2 and punches 4 being actuated by rotation of a driven shaft 5. Cams 6 and 7 on the shaft 5 actuate bell crank levers 8 and 11 respectively pivotally mounted on shafts 9 and 12. The lever 8 has a flange 18 that co-operates with a spring-urged rod 13 for clamping the tape. An extension 24 on the lever 8 separates contacts 22 23 as the lever 8 moves forward with the tape. A further cam, not shown, on the shaft 5 closes contacts 27, 28 when the contacts 22, 23 are normally open. Should the tape not move the lever 8 forwards, the contacts 22, 23 remain closed, thereby completing a circuit upon closure of contacts 27, 28, to a relay 39 having contacts 31. Operation of the relay 39 prevents further operation of punches and/or will give a warning of tape feed failure.
