Abstract

846,458. Air-conditioning. FRAM CORPORATION. April 30, 1959, No. 14753/59. Class 137 A filter element for use in an air-conditioning unit comprises a fibrous filter medium impregnated with a non-volatile organo-metallic bactericide and fungicide which is not removed by the passage of air at atmosphere temperatures. Desirably, the compound is a tributyl-tin compound or an organo-silver compound, such as silver thiocyanate. The medium comprises a batt of cellulose acetate fibres of various thicknesses bonded together, the fungicide being sprayed on in an emulsion of synthetic resin. A fireproofing agent, such as sodium borate and a wetting agent may be included in the emulsion. As shown in Fig. 1 an air-conditioning unit 10 has an inlet grille 11 behind which the filter medium 13 is located, cooling coils 14 being arranged behind the filter; an air-discharge grille 15 is arranged above the grille 11, the air being passed through the unit by a fan (not shown). The filter may be used dry or wetted with an oily polyglycol.
