Abstract
846,431. Elastic-fluid turbines. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. June 9, 1958, No. 18333/58. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] An elastic fluid turbine comprises an outer casing, an inner casing enclosed by the outer casing and a nozzle casing enclosed by the inner casing, the turbine having at least one inlet conduit rigidly connected to the outer casing and extending through the inner casing to enter the nozzle casing, telescopic connections being provided between the inlet conduit and the inner casing and the nozzle casing respectively to permit relative movement therebetween. The outer casing 11 is axially divided into two parts 31, 32 (see Fig. 4) fastened together by bolts and surrounds the inner casing 12 which is similarly divided into two parts 41, 42 joined together by studs 46. The inner casing is located axially with respect to the outer casing by key connections 48, and is supported (see Fig. 1) by the outer casing on lugs 49 which extend therefrom to mate with grooves 50 in the casing 11. Within the inner casing is supported the nozzle casing 13 which is divided into two parts 51, 52 about a horizontal joint 72. Two lugs 73 on the lower half 52 are disposed in suitable openings provided in the inner casing to support both halves of the nozzle casing, while lugs 74 provided in the upper half 51 also mate with openings provided in the inner casing to restrain torques on the nozzle casing, the lugs allowing relative movement between the nozzle and inner casings along the plane of the joint 72. Lateral location of the nozzle casing is secured by pins 75. Tongue and groove connections 76 restrain the nozzle casing against axial displacement. The turbine is provided with a fluid exhaust 17 and with a fluid inlet conduits 16, the latter being secured to the outer casing and extending telescopically through tubular collars 63 on the inner casing and through tubular necks 61 integral with the nozzle casing. Sealing means 66, 67 are provided between the conduit and the necks 61 and the collars 63 respectively, the means comprising alternate rings, one set being in slidable sealing relationship with the conduit and the other, alternate, set being in slidable sealing relationship with the neck or collar as the case may be. In a modification, Fig. 5, the conduits are arranged radially and have each a flange 191 bolted to a flange on the outer casing 111 the conduits being again telescopically engaged with collars 195 and necks 201 on the inner casing and the nozzle casing respectively. Specification 846,432 is referred to.
