A pattern-controlled flame-cutting machine has a plurality of burners 10, 11 mounted as a unit freely rotatable on a 'support 15, the gas supply conduits extending through the support and unit by way of annular chambers 16, 17, 18 arranged therebetween and which are sealed from each other and from the outside by packings 19. The machine has a main burner 9 and two additional burners 10, 11 adapted to be rotated automatically about the axis of the main burner. The additional burners which are used for cutting bevelled edges to the workpiece 12 are adjustably mounted on arcuate guides 7, 8 which are themselves adjustable in dovetail guides 5, 6 of a unit 4 whereby the additional burners can be set to lead and lag respectively the main burner. This unit is connected by a flange 3, which permits adjustment of the entire burner assembly in the direction a, to a rotary body 2 journalled on a stationary mandrel 15 having gas supply ducts 14 communicating with chambers 16, 17, 18 in body 1 leading through control valves 20, 21 to the burners. These valves may be actuated magnetically at appropriate points in the cutting programme, Body 2 has teeth 22 engaged by a pinion 23 driven through mechanical or electrical transmission in dependence upon the shape of the pattern whereby the axes at the additional burners are maintained in planes at right angles to the direction of cut. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the main burner is mounted directly on the lower end of the mandrel and is fed through ducts extending longitudinally therein. An external mixing chamber is provided for incoming gas and oxygen.
